I fish SLR solo for many years and from gate open to gate closing and never have any issues nor see anything strange. • @Adventurewithnhia
      @Adventurewithnhia 14 дней назад

      Taste similar, I can’t tell much difference at all, the “red meat” or blood line meat is a lot bigger so you taste it more if you use it into your dishes but to me it tastes the same. Bigger fish bigger red meat, if you cut it out it tasted pretty much the same as a smaller striped bass. Only difference I can point out is that the smaller 18-28 inch bass has a tiny bit more tenderness but not by much. The soup with the big ones are much better with the bigger bone adding more flavor in my opinion.

    Nice fish! I've always been curious about going out there on a yak. Never felt it was worth making the trip out there due to how bi-polar the weather can be. How often are you out there on the yak?

    • @Adventurewithnhia
      @Adventurewithnhia 15 дней назад

      Thank You!!! It’s fun on the San Luis Reservoir when you go on calm conditions. I don’t even plan a trip if the conditions isn’t good or calm enough. I always use two sources of forecasting like windy.com or the Windy app and I use google. It tells you all the wind speeds at each hours and the directions of the wind per hour. If the wind gets pass 6mph I probably won’t even go because like you said and sometimes the forecast isn’t accurate and it can be a few extra mph difference where a 6mph actually being a 10mph which I have been in before. So I watch for the afternoon winds direction and if it blows into the middle or east to los Banos then I don’t go out far. If the winds blow back to the boat ramp then I go out farther. I always play by conditions and forecast. Whitecaps happens fast and dangerous. It just depends on the forecast if it allows me to play and fish or go somewhere else. Kind of hard to say how often I go but if it’s calm I’ll be there till rockfish season opens.

    • @Adventurewithnhia
      @Adventurewithnhia 15 дней назад

      There are fish in the cove by the boat ramp so you don’t have to go far. The fish in the cove moves a lot so you will have to find them, they don’t stay in one area for long but they are in the cove.

Not like a halibut where it’s still easy to process even when big. These Striper spine, rib bone, fin bone, and head are thick! I think I replaced all my lock nuts a year or two ago, I might go buy some more and keep a few extras inside the kayak for replacement with the extra sprocket and rod, nothing like going kayaking to get there to not be able to use the kayak fully. Sorry Nhia your rod snapped, it happened to all of us. Yeah good thing it didn’t happen out there in the ocean. It happened to me, I brought it back to the Hobie retailer and they were able to get it out. On the Lake Tahoe clip I thought you were wearing a dry suits. Ha ha ha looks cold.

      So that’s a normal thing? It’s not rare or only happens to some? Man… I figured it’s stainless steel it should be very durable but I guess with over the years of hard pedaling and pressure from side to side flexing. But man that’s creepy if that snapped out in the ocean. I wished we had a Hobie retailer here in Fresno, it’s either in the Bay Area or up north. Haha yeah no dry suit, just regular clothings just very bundled up and thermo socks. It was cold. If I can’t get the rod out I might change out the sprockets. Thanks James!

    A fisherman fishes because he is a fisherman. Glad it didn’t break on you out far. Hopefully it won’t take you too long to get it fix and back otw. Good luck. Thanks for the video Nhia.

      To tell you the truth, it was nice not having to put up videos, just do my thing and not having to transfer and edit. But yeah I’m glad it was on a lake and at the start of the day than way out far where I usually go or worse out crabbing fighting the wind. We’ll see how long it takes for the sprockets and masts to arrive. I guess it’s shore fishing for the time. Thanks!!

    PLease think twice before you buy the boat for ocean use. Lake use, may be. Seeing is believing.!

      I see Porta-botes in the ocean from time to time and on some days you see 3 or 4 of those on the ocean. Its all about going when the conditions is safe and know where you are away from dangerous reef that creates giant waves. But yes think twice before taking it into the ocean. I’ve seen boats capsized in the lakes due to whitecaps.

    Man those were some big trout in the hatchery! Hope they bite my line one day... when I eventually fish for trout again...

      @Adventurewithnhia Месяц назад

      Yeah Tanks in the hatchery, I can’t believe how big they are. Size of a legal lingcod but with a smaller head so more meat! With the weather and conditions going on, trout fishing isn’t bad. I was surprised a touch of egg and Italian season breadcrumbs fried tasted really good, not what I remembered long ago. It’s actually good eating haha. I don’t think you have trout gears, all saltwater, catch one on a halibut setup. You might like it, trout fishing.

    Dude, take those hatchery trout food and smash into the power bait. I think that might work! Lol

    • @Adventurewithnhia
      @Adventurewithnhia Месяц назад

      I think that would work, but now days with the rubbery powerbait balls and mice tails you can cast it so much farther and still catch really good quality trouts. But it would be a good test video though hatchery food mix with powerbait vs no hatchery feed.

    Nhia, nice tour of the hatchery. I always thought those trouts were wild. Man they are huge in there. Ps, need to get a better net job. Ha ha ha 😂

    • @Adventurewithnhia
      @Adventurewithnhia Месяц назад

      Yeah very rare to find wild trout now days. Some say they are wild but it’s just mainly holdovers that didn’t get fish out or eaten or died. We have areas that are more wild but it’s mostly streams and creeks. The lake trouts I’m not sure if they actually reproduce. Shaver lake is all stocked trouts, they empty shaver lake over 10 years ago to fix the dam so it was dry. The hatchery is cool to see. Hahaha yeah I F-up on that last fish, jumped right out the net. Thanks James! Wild trout are harder to fish for and better with fly fishing.

    That’s cool that you’re able to go inside the hatchery and feed the trouts. Wish lakes around here are not so crowded. It’s combat fishing and not as enjoyable as lakes in your area. Thanks for the video. Keep them coming.

      The hatchery is cool, buckets of food to feed the fish, see the difference stages and see where most of our planted trouts are from. I think we have too many lakes and rivers around Fresno and fishing choices that it never really gets bad unless you fish under the pine flat dam where it’s supposed to be for rookies to learn how to fish even so it’s still plenty of space. Weather and conditions looking ugly. Stay safe if you go.

    Dude those are some big trouts. Almost the size of the salmon. Think you might need a bigger net. lol😅

      @Adventurewithnhia Месяц назад

      Yeah that what I thought too, salmon looking trout even have the salmon colored meat too. I’m going to try and find one like my salmon net but a bit smaller with the same kind of netting as it’s way easier to get the hooks out. Better dipping into the water also and if put it sideways on the kayak like I always do the fish stays in the water while still inside the net mesh. Time to go shopping around.
